Performances & Workshops

Performance is an integral dimension of Kathak training. At NBPAC, students develop not only technique but the artistic confidence, stage presence, and interpretive depth necessary for meaningful public presentation.

Student Performances

Students at all levels participate in annual recitals, community cultural events, and themed productions. These performance opportunities allow dancers to:

Apply classroom technique in a live performance context

Build confidence and overcome stage anxiety

Experience the joy of sharing art with an audience

Develop ensemble skills and collaborative artistry

Receive constructive feedback and grow as performers

Performances are carefully staged to match student skill levels—beginners present foundational compositions, while advanced students tackle complex choreography and interpretive work.

ARTISTIC PHILOSOPHY

Tradition & Innovation

NBPAC's performance repertoire embraces both traditional and contemporary approaches. We honor the classical margam—the traditional sequence of compositions that has defined Kathak for generations—while also exploring thematic productions that engage modern narratives.

Traditional Repertoire

  • Classical Vandana (invocations)
  • Mythological narratives (Shiv Paran, Kaliya Daman, Radha-Krishna leelas)
  • Pure dance sequences (tora, tukra, paran)
  • Tarana and thaat
  • Bhajan and thumri interpretations

Contemporary Exploration

  • Abstract themes (nature, seasons, emotions)
  • Social narratives and contemporary issues
  • Fusion with electronic/contemporary music
  • Cross-cultural storytelling
  • Original choreography by Ms. Priya Tiwari

Workshops & Masterclasses

Throughout the year, NBPAC offers specialized workshops exploring specific aspects of Kathak technique, theory, or performance practice. These intensive sessions allow students to deepen their understanding of particular topics or learn from guest artists.

Workshop Focus Areas:

Technique Intensives

Deep dives into chakkar technique, layakari, footwork clarity, or specific compositional forms

Abhinaya Workshops

Focused study of expressive dance, rasa theory, and narrative interpretation

Rhythm & Taal

Understanding complex rhythmic structures, mathematical variations, and bols

Choreography Lab

Exploration of creative process, composition, and developing original work

Workshop schedules are announced throughout the year. Students from other institutions and the broader dance community are welcome to attend.

FUTURE VISION

Performance Ensemble

As NBPAC grows, we plan to establish a semi-professional performance ensemble for advanced students who wish to pursue Kathak with greater intensity. This ensemble will undertake ambitious choreographic projects, tour to regional venues, and represent NBPAC's artistic vision in the broader dance community.

This ensemble will provide pre-professional training for students considering careers in dance while offering the broader community access to high-quality classical performances.
